Vinh Ngoc Tran

Dr
University of Michigan

Vinh Ngoc’s research advances natural hazard preparedness by developing innovative flood forecasting and risk assessment frameworks that protect vulnerable communities. As a research scientist specialising in hydrology, Vinh Ngoc integrates weather prediction, urban flood modelling, and early warning systems using process-based development, surrogate modelling, uncertainty quantification, and data assimilation to improve real-time hazard prediction under uncertain conditions. Leveraging high-performance computing, Vinh Ngoc analyses large-scale satellite and reanalysis datasets across multiple hydrologic and hydrodynamic models, enhanced by machine learning techniques. This interdisciplinary approach strengthens the capacity to anticipate and respond to flood hazards from local urban to regional scales, directly supporting disaster risk reduction and building more resilient communities.
